Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a 1978 television movie starring Morgan Freeman. This movie is the shortened version that was released from the original 3 part drama mini series back in 1978 telling the story of a black girl and her family who try to hold onto their land during the Depression. It is based upon the 1977 Newbery Medal awarded novel by Mildred D. Taylor. The novel is a part of her Logan family series. Plot: The pain of racial prejudice is experienced by members of a black family in Depression-era Mississippi. Storyline: With the land to hold them together, nothing can tear the Logans apart. Why is the land so important to Cassie's family? It takes the events of one turbulent year- the year of the night riders and the burnings, the year a white girl humiliates Cassie in public simply because she is black- to show Cassie that having a place of their own is the Logan family's lifeblood. It is the land that gives the Logans their courage and pride- no matter how others may degrade them, the Logans possess something no one can take away. We do not own the rights to any of this film.
