Boycott is a 2001 American made-for-television biographical drama film directed by Clark Johnson, and starring Jeffrey Wright as Martin Luther King Jr. The film, based on the book Daybreak of Freedom by Stewart Burns, tells the story of the 1955–1956 Montgomery bus boycott. It won a Peabody Award in 2001 "for refusing to allow history to slip into 'the past." Plot: Set against the backdrop of the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, the story traces the lives of several African Americans who decide to boycott travelling in the segregated public buses. Boycott focuses not just on speeches and marches, but on the human cost of leadership, the sacrifices made by everyday citizens, and the strategic brilliance behind collective action. Synopsis: When Rosa Parks (Iris Little-Thomas) defiantly refuses to take a back seat, she sets into motion a tumultuous string of events centered around the 1955 bus boycott in Montgomery, Ala. Using archival footage to establish the strained atmosphere of the era, this dramatization of that chapter of the Civil Rights Movement's history shows her interactions with such major figures as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Jeffrey Wright), Coretta Scott King (Carmen Ejogo) and Ralph Abernathy (Terrence Howard).
