Get Christie Love! was originally broadcast in January, 1974 as an ABC Movie of the Week, inspired by the 1970s blaxploitation films such as Tamara Dobson's Cleopatra Jones (1973), and Pam Grier's Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974). The title character had a catchphrase; upon apprehending a criminal, Love would declare, "You're under arrest, Sugah!" The film proved a success and consequently spawned a short-lived television series on the ABC network. Originally aired in the mid-70s, at the height of 'blaxploitation', this was American television's attempt to capitalize on the genre. It featured Teresa Graves as Ms. Love, an LAPD officer, known for her catchphrase; 'freeze, sugar'. Synopsis: Teresa Graves stars as a shapely sleuth in this 70s flick. 💥 Step into the world of hard-hitting street justice with Velvet Smooth (1976) — this Saturday’s classic feature on BlackTree TV! One of the lesser-known but fiercely memorable entries in the Blaxploitation era, Velvet Smooth introduces us to a powerful Black female lead who breaks barriers and bones with equal style. Directed by Michael Fink, Velvet Smooth stars Johnnie Hill in her only major film role as the private investigator with a sharp mind and deadlier fists. When a turf war erupts in Harlem, a crime boss turns to the one woman he knows can restore order: Velvet Smooth, a sleek and savvy PI with a no-nonsense attitude. Alongside her all-female karate squad, she dives into a mystery that pits her against double-crosses, rival gangs, and a corrupt system trying to keep her down. More than a crime drama, Velvet Smooth is a time capsule of 1970s urban cinema — showcasing Black power, martial arts flair, and a woman-led narrative at a time when few dared to tell it. 🖤 This film also reminds us of the trailblazing women who made room for future icons like Pam Grier and Tamara Dobson, and deserves its place among the canon of Blaxploitation heroines. 📢 Don’t forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and
