Eddie Murphy is the fast talking con-artist Rayford Gibson and Martin Lawrence is the conservative bank teller Claude Banks. The two are accidentally teamed up to become the funniest "odd couple" east of the Mississippi. In an effort to pay off Ray's debt and restore Claude's reputation, they travel south on a bootlegging run for some quick cash. There is no limit to their comical misfortune as they are placed at the scene of a crime and their mistaken identity lands them right in front of the judge. This hysterical comedy gives a whole new meaning to friends for life.

Life

A hauntingly beautiful farmland, hidden somewhere in Oregon's mountains, is home to horses and dogs, ex-cons and ex-addicts, drummers, dreamers and Bigfoot hunters. Steve is a kind-hearted landlord who allows his renters to be late with the rent - or not pay rent at all. Amber is the woman Steve can't stop loving, even when she betrays him. Buzz isolates himself in a tent, nurturing dreams of an expedition with his mule. Ron spent a decade in prison and now dwells in a forest cabin with Gale, whose father is suddenly rushed to hospital. Tom Junior has conquered the meth addiction that killed his brother and is now patiently cooking food for Tom Senior. The passionate drummer Sky is convinced that Bigfoot hides in the woodlands. Mikael Lypinski approaches this nonconformist village with curiosity and a deeply felt humanism, capturing poetic, humoristic moments in the lives of its characters. Unpaved is a patchwork of interweaving stories and destinies, offering a moving insight into off-grid America, where people have turned their backs to society to live in sync with nature. Unpaved is the second part of an American trilogy of documentaries by Mikael Lypinski portraying an unknown, unmanicured part of the USA. The first part was the award-winning "Desert Coffee", set in Slab City in southern California. GANG TAPES (2001) Our Saturday Movie Showcase continues with Gang Tapes, the raw 2001 crime drama directed by Adam Ripp and starring Darris Love, Darontay McClendon, Don Cambell, Six Reasons, Trivell and Sonja Marie. Shot largely from the perspective of a stolen video camera, Gang Tapes takes viewers inside the life of a teenager becoming increasingly immersed in gang culture in South Central Los Angeles. 📺 Rating: R 🎞️ Genre: Crime / Drama / Found Footage ⏱️ Runtime: Approximately 91 minutes 📅 Year: 2001 🎬 Director: Adam Ripp ✍🏽 Writers: Adam Ripp & Steven Wolfson 📍 Filmed in: Los Angeles, California MOVIE SYNOPSIS After a violent carjacking leaves a group of young gang members with a tourist family’s video camera, teenager Kris takes possession of it and begins recording everything around him. What begins almost like a teenager playing with a new toy gradually becomes something much darker. Kris documents the drug dealing, robberies, violence, friendships and rivalries surrounding his neighborhood. He especially looks up to Alonzo, while becoming fascinated by the increasingly dangerous behavior of Cyril. But the deeper Kris moves into the streets, the harder it becomes to simply stand behind the camera. His mother desperately tries to keep him away from the gang life surrounding him, but Kris’ footage begins documenting his transformation from an observer into a participant. KEY CAST • Trivell as Kris • Darris Love as Alonzo • Darontay McClendon as Cyril • Don Cambell as Travis • Six Reasons as Erik • Sonja Marie as Kris’ Mother • Aura Ruiz as Khandi • Tasheia Woodward as Kris’ Sister • Dwayne Whitehead as Rodney • Tramonde Myers as Big Loco • Lil’ Skrappy as Kris’ Killer / Rival in Red • Boo Kapone as himself DARRIS LOVE SPOTLIGHT Darris Love stars as Alonzo, one of the figures young Kris admires as he becomes increasingly attracted to street life. Many viewers may recognize Love from a completely different kind of role: Ray Alvarado on Nickelodeon’s The Secret World of Alex Mack. Gang Tapes gave Love an opportunity to move far away from children’s television and into a much darker portrayal of life in Los Angeles. He would later appear in projects including Sucker Free City, Waist Deep, ER, CSI, Without a Trace and other film and television productions. THE REALISM BEHIND GANG TAPES One of the most interesting aspects of the movie is its casting. According to production information associated with the film, with the exception of Darris Love, the principal performers were former gang members from Watts and South Central Los Angeles. That decision gives Gang Tapes an unusual authenticity. Rather than presenting the story like a polished Hollywood gangster movie, Adam Ripp uses shaky handheld footage, direct-to-camera conversations and the stolen camcorder perspective to make audiences feel as though they’re watching material that was actually recovered from the streets. MUSIC & HIP-HOP CONNECTION Hip-hop is also deeply connected to the production. The film’s music credits include: Coolio Kurupt Chino XL That connection between hip-hop and the Los Angeles neighborhoods depicted in the film adds another layer to its early-2000s West Coast identity. AN EARLY FOUND-FOOTAGE STREET DRAMA Gang Tapes arrived during a fascinating period for found-footage filmmaking. Instead of supernatural horror, the filmmakers apply the technique to gang culture and inner-city violence. The camera isn’t simply recording the story. The camera becomes part of the story. As Kris continues filming, viewers increasingly realize that they’re essentially watching a teenager create a record of his own descent into violence. WHY WATCH? Gang Tapes is intentionally uncomfortable. It doesn’t romanticize Kris’ journey. Instead, it places viewers beside him as fascination with street life gradually becomes participation—and participation begins carrying consequences. More than two decades later, the movie remains an interesting artifact of early-2000s independent Black urban cinema and the found-footage movement. ⚠️ VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED: Gang Tapes is rated R and contains strong violence, drug activity, language and mature subject matter. 👉 For more movies and television streaming 24/7, visit BlackTreeTV.com — Where Legends Live Forever. 👉
