Most recently, Joe Mitchell, a black, non-violent civil rights leader was killed in his own home by an unknown assailant with no apparent motive. A young black soldier returns home to Los Angeles from combat in Vietnam to find out that his brother had been killed and uncovers a gang of racist cops. Angered, he joins a black nationalist group to take his revenge. Synopsis: Abruptly summoned back to his old Watts neighborhood while serving his tour of duty in Vietnam, young black soldier Mike Simm investigates his brother's recent death and discovers a gang of racist cops and becomes the unlikely voice of moderation between the enraged black militants who want to riot in the streets, and the violent white extremists who are just itching for a race war. Plot: The film is about the death of a prominent Black community member Joe Mitchell, who served on the school board. Of One Blood is a 1944 American race film directed, written by and starring Spencer Williams. The film focuses on two orphaned African American brothers who grow up to become a lawyer and a police officer, and who work together to break up a crime ring run by a miscreant who turns out to be their long-lost oldest brother. Plot: Orphaned brothers grow up to become a police officer and a lawyer, and work to rid their city of a bootlegging gang. Like many race films, all of Williams' works were thought to have been lost. At the time, films were printed on nitrate film, which is highly flammable and liable to decompose, and only a few prints of Williams' films were made due to their low budget. However, most of his 1940s films have been rediscovered; including Of One Blood. A copy has been preserved at the Library of Congress. We do not own the rights to any of this film.
