This is a Fan Made Unofficial Video i created for the Eric B & Rakim Song: "I Know You Got Soul" Album: Paid in Full (1987) Eric B. & Rakim were an American hip hop duo formed on Long Island, New York, in 1986, composed of DJ Eric B. and rapper Rakim. They first received acclaim for their 1987 debut album Paid in Full, which featured versions of the popular singles "Eric B. Is President" and the title track. They followed with three successful albums: Follow the Leader (1988), Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990), and Don't Sweat the Technique (1992). AllMusic wrote that "during rap's so-called golden age in the late '80s, Eric B. & Rakim were almost universally recognized as the premier DJ/MC team in all of hip-hop." Tom Terrell of NPR called them "the most influential DJ/MC combo in contemporary pop music period." "I Know You Got Soul" is a song recorded by Eric B. & Rakim in 1987. A commercial and artistic success, it was ranked by Rolling Stone on their list of Top 50 hip-hop songs, and on their list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song takes its name from a 1971 song of the same title recorded by Bobby Byrd, which it samples heavily, and is frequently credited with popularizing the use of James Brown samples in hip hop songs. It also samples the Ben Powers Jr. drum intro from the song "You'll Like It Too" released on LAX Records under the name Funkadelic. It was released as the third single from their 1987 album Paid in Full. It peaked at number 39 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, number 34 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales, and number 64 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The track's production contains "digitized cymbal crashes, breathing sounds, and a bumping bass line." The song is featured on the fictional radio station Playback FM in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The British band M|A|R|R|S sampled the title lyric of their hit single "Pump Up the Volume" from the a cappella version of "I Know You Got Soul". The song was also sampled in the song "International Affair" by Sean Paul featuring Debi Nova. Timbaland quotes the opening line "It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you without a strong rhyme ["dope beat", in the Timbaland version] to step to," in the Aaliyah song "Try Again". Timbaland covers the whole first verse in his later song "Cop That Shit", with lyrical changes. Part of the first verse is also spoken by Mos Def on his song "Love" off of his debut album, Black on Both Sides. Support the Content:

The film was later (after Denzel Washington became a superstar) re-released on video under the title Hard Lessons. Synopsis: George McKenna (Denzel Washington) confronts a career-defining moment when he accepts a job as principal of a tough, inner city Los Angeles high school. Facing an apathetic student body and indifferent teachers and parents, McKenna, with help from dedicated educator Bobbie Maxwell (Lynn Whitfield), transforms the school from a gang-ridden war zone into a stepping-stone for higher education, and in the process gains the hard-won respect of the community and school administrators. Storyline: The true story of a teacher in Los Angeles who becomes the Principal of George Washington Memorial High School. The school and its students are affected by the normal life of gangs and drugs in their lives. McKenna wanted to give the students a real choice at education and all it offered for their future. After Denzel Washington (George McKenna) became a superstar, the film was re-released on home video under the title Hard Lessons. Tagline: He risked it all to make the grade.
