For the Love of Ruth is a 2015 television drama romance film. It is a moving story about family loyalty, sacrifice, and the courage to open your heart again. The film explores themes of caregiving, independence, romantic vulnerability, and the emotional toll of putting others before yourself. It’s a story about women who carry the weight of family — and what happens when they finally consider choosing themselves. For the Love of Ruth is a reminder that love doesn’t mean abandoning responsibility — it means learning how to share your heart without losing yourself. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Christine Swanson (Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story), the film follows Ruth (played by Denise Boutté), a devoted woman who has dedicated her life to caring for her developmentally challenged sister. When a charming and successful man (played by Gary Dourdan) enters her life, Ruth is forced to confront a difficult question: can she balance love and responsibility — or will duty always come first? The legendary Loretta Devine (Naomi) adds depth and grace, continuing her decades-long legacy of portraying strong, resilient women on screen. Plot: Ruth Summerling has spent the majority of her life struggling to find her way and comes to some understanding of where exactly it is she belongs. Great White stars Katrina Bowden (Piranha 3DD, 30 Rock), Aaron Jakubenko (Tidelands), Kimie Tsukakoshi (Riptide), Tim Kano (Neighbours), and Te Kohe Tuhaka (Love and Monsters, The Dead Lands).
